Visual Promotional Materials

Visual Promotional Materials are used to promote brands, companies and more. We often don't notice them because they surrounded us. Television advertisements usually have a celebrity to star as the face of the company. This makes ordinary people want to buy the product because they see that the product is good enough for the celebrity advertising it. The company may target a specific audience by using celebrities that they potential buyer will know such as Eva Longoria on the L'oreal advert. The celebrity is used to spark a connection with the consumer.  Company logos such as Nike's tick or Ralph Lauren’s horse and jockey are used to promote the brand in the hopes that they will eventually become a status symbol. Shopping bags and magazine pages are also among the most popular visual promotional materials used, as people come across them doing everyday activities, I think this is what makes it so effective. Using different colours, pictures, fonts and media attracts different people; this means that companies can attract a specific target audience, making it more likely that they will make sales.

As technology advances so do our advertising techniques.
'During the time of the ancient Egyptians the government was using images carved into stones to post the laws and regulations of the land. This carving into stones may, in a way, have been the oldest form of outdoor advertising'.(http://www.capitoloutdoor.com/outdoor-advertising-services/billboard-advertising/history-billboard-advertising).

The modern billboard is more eye-catching of course than this would have been because the use of electricity means we are able to use lights within the advertisement. This in turn makes it possible to use motion, bringing billboard advertising to life, and the improvement of LCD technologies have now made huge animated advertisements possible. Development in technology also means that computerised graphics is getting more and more advanced as time goes on. This is part of the recent dramatic evolution of advertising in general. The more unusual or original the promotional technique is, the more curious people will be. This in turn makes them feel more inclined to buy the product or service being advertised. I believe this is the reason that advertising develops so quickly and radically.
